21!

make a wish!

It's official. I'm old. Okay, maybe not old, but definitely older (way to state the obvious!) Now I have to be an adult, and I don't think I am ready for such responsibility (as Uncle Ben said most eloquently, "with great power, comes great responsibility). I rung in my 21st with some low key fun!

On the eve of my birthday (it was actually my birthday in Scotland) I finished up Boys Before Flowers with Caitlin. It was not a satisfactory ending. Oh well, it was an addictive series. When I woke up I opened my cards. I was pleasantly pleased with the warm wishes I got through the post! Boo-boo & Pong-Pong recorded the sweetest birthday card for me (Hallmark now has recordable cards, how AWESOME is that?!) My flatmates knocked on my door, they had made me birthday muffins. Each one was decorated with a initial of my name. It was adorable. Once I was fully awake we headed out for pig. Melissa, Semeli, Sara, and I then made our way to Camera Obscura.

Camera Obscura was amazing. It's basically a bunch of illusions. But the actual camera obscura is a giant magnifying glass that uses mirrors to bounce off light onto a wooden bowl in a dark room. You could see all of Edinburgh. Although it was not as sunny as it could have been, it was still pretty awesome. On the roof, I wanted a photo of us and I asked this one woman if she would mind taking a photo of my friends and I. I was shocked to hear a blatant, "No." No one has ever said no to that request before! Her boyfriend ended up taking the photo, but I was just aghast when she without hesitation declined. They had these wicked cameras looking out to the street, that zoomed in on unsuspecting citizens. It was terrifying, because it was like Big Brother was watching you. But in reality, it was just me, zooming in on people. I zoomed into an apartment, and there was this guy, digging, into his nose! Oops, a very private moment ruined, I zoomed out to give him his space. It was awesome but creepy. We stayed there going through the various illusions and it was hilarity.

They had cleaned up the kitchen, made me a Tardis cake, had a sign and flowers for me! It was lovely. We did a Bourne marathon, ate mac & cheese, played cards, drank cider! In the card they gave me, it was signed Kim Hyun Joong (my soon to be husband) and Sara had even written Korean characters out for more authenticity!

Ahaa, SalexTARDIS!!

Now that i'm 21, I feel no different, but I realize how much I have yet to accomplish in life. There are so many milestones that I have not been through, yes, I am still young, but it's alarming to realize another year has just passed me by without much change in the previous ones. Though, I also realize, if you want change to happen, you can't just sit idly by and wait for it happen, you have to take charge and make those changes yourself. Responsibility is a scary thing. I don't know if I'm ready for such changes though, but sooner rather than later, I'm going to have to take charge of my own life, and 21 seems the right age to do that.
